Part 1: How a Cruise and a Dream Launched a Coffee Legacy
Some people bring back souvenirs from vacation. We brought back a lifelong obsession—with coffee.
It started 25 years ago, on a cruise to Jamaica. The sun was warm, the ocean calm, and we were on the lookout for something new. What we found was Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee—and it changed everything.
We’d never tasted anything like it. It was smooth, rich, and full of flavor without any bitterness. No cream, no sugar—just pure, exceptional coffee. We looked at each other and said, “Why isn’t all coffee like this?”
That moment stuck with us.
Fast forward to today—kids grown, careers well-established, and retirement on the horizon—and the question became: What now? What would this next chapter of life look like? Some folks slow down. We decided to speed up… right into the world of specialty coffee.
☕ Why Coffee? Why Now?
We’re Jon and Deb Jaggers. Jon is an executive at a major bank, leading credit card recovery operations across four locations. Deb’s a registered nurse and clinical liaison in kidney transplant. We’ve both spent decades helping people in high-stress environments—but we’ve always had a dream of doing something more personal. Something grounded in family, passion, and joy.
And every time we talked about “what’s next,” coffee came back into the conversation.
We remembered that cruise. That cup. That feeling. We realized coffee wasn’t just something we used to wake up—it was something that could be savored, shared, and celebrated. That’s the heart of Jaggers Coffee Express.
🌄 Great Coffee Shouldn’t Be Rare
Jamaican Blue Mountain is exquisite—but let’s be honest: it’s expensive and hard to find. Its growing region is tiny. Most people will never try it. But what it taught us is priceless:
Great coffee should be available to everyone.
Not burnt. Not bitter. Not drowned in flavored syrup. Just really, really good coffee.
We started researching farms, roast profiles, and cupping methods. We learned how to find beans with character and depth—from Kenya to Bali to Mexico. And more importantly, we learned how to roast them to highlight their natural brilliance.
Because coffee shouldn't just get you through your day—it should add something to it.
👨👩👧👦 A Family Affair from Day One
We didn’t just start a business—we built a legacy. One rooted in family.
From our kids, Sean and Jaedon (who helped us launch the site and social media), to our 101-year-old grandmother who swears by our Bali Blue, everyone has a say in what goes in our cups. Our 95-year-old mom drinks Safari Sunrise daily. Cousin Danny is hooked on Lone Star Lasso. And our nephew Bryce? Let’s just say Mayan Gold wouldn’t exist without his expert coffee snobbery.
Our first coffee tasting session was in our kitchen, surrounded by laughter, notes, and second opinions. That spirit hasn’t changed—we still gather, taste, and only pick what makes all of us say, “Now that’s good.”
This is just the beginning of our story. In the next post, we’ll take you inside the heart of our operation—where our entire family helps taste, test, and roast every bean we offer. Because when we say our coffee is family-approved, we mean it.
